Reflection

I enjoyed the whole experience of this assessment. It was absolutely incredible to get chance to have a proper conversation with the famous artist. I guess I would not have the guts to start off a conversation through email or social media if I was not request to do it for my assessment. I hesitated to send out my email to the artist because I am afraid of rejection, which it did happen to me. My top four lists that I emailed did not get back to me. Furthermore I did not want to interview my friends for this task because I would not have enough content to include in my zine. I panic, I went on searching for more artists in order to send out my email. I was lucky enough to have two replies from my back-up list and thus the artist that I am working on this task is Truly Design.

Before i began crafting on my questions, I have done my research on their work and brainstorm on the questions that I want to ask them. I sent Andy my questions for checking before finalising my final five questions. However with only five questions is definitely not sufficient to cover on the things that I would love you ask. Hence, I send them a total of seven questions and ask them to pick on the five questions that they feel more comfortable to answer. I am so thankful that they actually replied all the questions that I sent them which gave me a better advantage to pick on the question to work on my zine.

I have decided to make a 3D zine to represent and showcase the designer’s work. Before I began with my work, I sent them an email to request for permission to use their work as part of my work. Within a few minutes, they replied me when a “Yes”.

In total, I have 13 pages for my zine. It was quite challenging as I have chosen to work on a 3D pop-up zine as their work are mainly in a 3D space . It took me longer than I have expected to complete my work. I watched several videos on  Youtube to learn up some technique. I struggle on fitting in the text, images of the designer’s work and the 3D pop-up art into one page. That was the real challenge I face.

I had a chat with Andy regarding my idea about my zine. He gave me a better idea and direction on how I should further develop on my zine. He told me not to complicate my work and keep things simple as the 3D is the “main character” that I’d love to showcase in my work. So I took a step back and reconsider my approach and I have decided to follow his footstep to simplify my work.

Throughout this process, I realised that there is a lot more creative artists that I have yet to discover. I actually know some of the new artists through my friends Honestly, I do not know the existence of Truly Design. I have seen their work on my Facebook feed but I did not know who is artist until I look up on their webpage and browse through their work.

In conclusion, I am quite satisfied with how my zine turn out to be. I hope that I could have more time to continue doing my research on 3D art which I could applied in my work. Lastly, Truly Design has also requested to send them a final copy of my work. As a promise, I’ll send them a copy of my work after I have completed all my assessment for this semester.
